Expect the unexpected. Tony Horton is one crazy fitness guru! If you “brought it” in any of the other P90X versions, you better get ready to “Bring it” again! If your new to P90X altogether, thats ok too! As Im typing this, P90X3 still hasn’t hit the market…but I’ve got a few ideas of what I think X3 is going to be like.
This is purely a guess, so if Im wrong don’t hold me to it! Since the release of FOCUS T25 Shaun T’s 25 minute a day, 5 days a week fitness program that’s great for anyone of any fitness level (Im currently in week 7 of this 10 week program and its AWESOME) I think that P90X3 is going to be the next competing workout. Through research and common sense, its been recognized that a lot of people can’t workout for a long period of time 6 days a week. Not that they don’t want to, or get in shape, but they are just truly busy people. I think Tony is going to create P90X3 for those people like Shaun T did with T25. You see, T25 uses very little equipment. Resistance Bands (that come free with the FOCUS T25 Challenge Pack) or dumbbells if you prefer those instead of bands, in only a handful of the workouts. With P90X and P90X2 you need bands and/or dumbbells and a pull up bar at minimum. In all the group workouts I’ve done recently with Tony he has given new moves that you can do that will get you similar results with only the use of your body. To me, Tony is not a big Cardio style guy. Yes he has plenty of cardio workouts, so I’ll be surprised if you don’t need some sort of equipment in X3 but again thats just a guess.
So lets say Im wrong with the first guess. My next assumption for X3 would still be a workout thats less than an hour. P90X was the first of the series and will get you completely ripped and in great shape. You’re able to perform as an athlete, or at least close to it. X2 focuses on speed, balance and agility. Again really honing in on those athletic moves. So I feel like X3 will still follow that same outline, but in less time. Tony Horton is all about creating his workouts to be functional. Meaning simple moves based on the bodies everyday functions. Walking, balance, playing with your kids, yard work or physical functions of your job. Im sure bands and dumbbells will be an option in X3. Realistically you can take bands anywhere if you travel a lot and you can do so many moves with it, even simulate a pull-up.
I can just about guarantee it will come with an awesome meal planner, as all of the Beachbody workouts do, of course a daily workout schedule, and if there is equipment, Im sure resistant bands will come with it also. You may have to purchase the P90X3 Challenge Pack, in order to get the bands for free, again if bands are needed. Challenge Packs are always your best buy with any Beachbody workout anyway. Challenge Packs always come with the entire workout program and your first monthly supply of Shakeology. If you’re not familiar with, I would take a moment to do so. Why do people still ask this question? Will p90x get you ripped? The simple answer is YES! It absolutely will! Why does P90X work so well? The answer: Muscle confusion, variety and nutrition. Total Package!
I was seriously thinking just the other day while driving home. Im truly in great shape. I mean fantastic shape. And Im not trying to toot my own horn. I think after all my hard work I deserve to be able to say that. I post pictures from time to time on facebook, and some of my gym rate friends even comment on my picture asking me how I get such solid abs because theres just ins’t there. While they are big, and have big muscles, and overall are in good shape, (im talking about the serious ones too) they still can’t get the abs. They’re in the gym 6 to 7 times a week and still can’t get there. Why? Again Im simply a believer in this, and it goes along with any workout. I personally think its 70% nutrition and 30% fitness. Now Im not saying they don’t eat well…let me break it down for you.
P90X gets you ripped simply because its a total package. Like I said above, when I was driving in the car I was thinking to myself,” they really got it right with P90X!” I do get high quality Sarms online as well because before getting ripped it’s essential that I have healthy muscles and the ability to lift heavy weights. The nutrition plan is a great guide for anyone! And yes I meant to say guide. No single person is the same. So one big book isn’t going to work for everyone. Thats what I like about the Nutritional Guide. It’s a great outline for you to start with. You can figure out what works best for you, and whats giving you the results you want. Most people just want to get in the best shape in the fasted amount of time possible. I can understand that…I once felt the same way. But once you get there, you’ve gotta start fine tuning it. Adjusting what your doing with your nutrition, adding things and taking things out so you can see where whats really working for you. And that’s where I am right now. I won’t lie. It was really hard for me to stick with the nutritional guide the first time I did P90X. I thought that’s what you had to do. And I fumbled through it. When I attended my P90X Certification class, I then found out what I just told you. The Nutritional Guide isn’t a perfect fit for everyone. You have to do what works best for you. Sometimes you may need less or even more food than what it calls for. Or you might need to substitute foods, due to variety at your grocery market. Either way, if your trying and using the guide the best you can, you’re on the right track!
So you know about the nutrition, now whats so great about the fitness side. I hate to repeat myself, but like I said above. Tony and the creators really got it right with this one! So for my body builder friends out there, listen up. This is a true story. Remember when I said I posted pics on Facebook occasionally? Well just recently I posted this pic. This is what one of my buddies said; “yo homie message me your current diet. Just cant get my abs quite to the point yours are. They are very close but I do zero cardio.” Now he is in great shape. He has huge arms, chest, back, shoulders and a flat stomach. He’s a gym rat. I definitely give him respect for what he’s accomplished on his own. But I think he’s under a BIG misconception. Cardio is great, but really there is only like 2 workouts that are cardio workouts for each week with P90X. Plyo and Kempo and they really work in more ways than just cardiovascular. My personal opinion is the reason you get such incredible results is the combination of move throughout each week compounded throughout the 90 days. The important thing to remember, this isn’t a quick fix. While it will get you in great shape faster than anything else I’ve ever seen, keep this in mind. It’s a journey. A lifestyle. So take it just one day at a time! Enjoy the journey and stick with it. Remember that small consistent steps overtime will compact into big changes and its much easier to do than to make 1 big change drastically.

While I know not all of us are Fire Fighters, at least you’ll be able to see that P90X is the real deal and that you can use it to train for some of the toughest jobs or you can train like those who have the toughest jobs. Im going to try to give you the best review on Building muscle with P90X that I can. A lot of times I think that Im very mechanical in writing my reviews. So Im going to really just try to give your the real deal, nothing mechanical.
In order to give you an accurate answer, I have to tell you how it worked for me. I mean you can search the internet and exhaust youtube and see that it works. I personally got great results. Feel free to check out my youtube video on the right side to see how I started and my end results. I like most everyone see myself everyday in the mirror. So I could definitely see my body changing, but I personally couldn’t tell that my muscles were bigger until everyone around me started to tell me. My brother who I don’t see but about once a month actually told me after I had completed the 1st round of P90X, while we were at the pool that he could see a great deal of muscle. I know it was hard for him to pay me that compliment, but he couldn’t deny it. I was always a scrawny guy. Before P90X the only thing that wasn’t scrawny was my belly. Thats what Crown Royal and beer will do for you. I mean it wasn’t huge but it was to the point that I knew if I didn’t do something it was just going to continue to grow. The simple answer to will P90X build muscles is YES. P90X will definitely build muscle. It will take fat and transform into unstoppable muscle. Many of you who frequent my blog knows that Im a P90X guy. I love the program! Im not going to go into how it works, other than they figured out how to trick your muscle (Muscle Confusion) so that you practically never plateau.
How Big Will my Muscles Get?
Well that all depends really on you. Genetics play role in how your body will react to the workouts and supplements. To tell you the truth and I fought this for a long time, but what you put into your body is just as important as your workouts. When I first started P90X and became a Beachbody Coach, I didn’t know anything about anything. I honestly thought I could just clean up my eating a little and workout and I’ll have an amazing six pack and big muscles. Wrong. You have got to be dedicated to eating clean. P90X did a great job in developing the P90X Meal Plan. As I heard Tony say time and time again, that the P90X meal plan isn’t going to work for every single person perfectly. Your going to have to play around with it and maybe add or take away from it. But it is a great tool to etch out a solid meal plan for yourself. What Im getting at is if you eat pizza once a week consistently its going to definitely affect what your body looks like. P90X isn’t for gaining muscle mass. It can be done and that kind of goes back to genetics. But I want to be straight forward, it will build muscle. Amazing muscle. You’ll be able to do things you never thought possible. The testosterone level in the body is one of the main reason which is responsible for stimulating muscle growth, so if its level is low, it affects the muscle growth in a person by not even growing in spite of a person going to the gym every day. What Will Help me During my Journey?
There are a few things that will definitely help you to achieve greater results. Just a year ago I heard Tony say that he is a big supporter of Creatine. I had never used it. I thought it simply pushed water up into the muscle. But while doing my P90X Certification I learned its real benefits. Your body actually creates creatine and it can and will be deplete during your workouts. Adding creatine gives you a blast of extra strength and muscle growth plus speeds up muscle recovery. So if size is something that you’re looking for this will help some. I have just recently in the last 125 days started to take the Creatine MAX from the Body Beast Supplements. I started taking when I did my first 90 days of Body Beast and I still use it with my P90X workouts. Im in week 5 of another round of P90X right now and I can tell a difference in using it and I’ve actually maintained the muscle gains that I got from doing Body Beast.

Yep, that’s me and my teammate. Tired wasn’t the word for it. But it was an absolute blast to do this challenge. We ran in the Tough Mudder Carolina’s 2012 on Saturday, October 27th. We live in NC so we had to drive down to SC and stay the night that Friday. It wasn’t really that far away, just a little over 2.5 hours. Neither of us had ever done TM before so we were just like you are now…NERVOUS! I don’t think either of us or even the girls slept that Friday night. We had an 8am start time, so the only thing that we were really, Im going to use the word anxious about was the obstacle called Arctic Enema. Jumping in a big dumpster full of 32˚F ice water at 8am was a bit intimidating to say the least. I think we all ended up getting out of the bed about 5am that Saturday morning getting ready and heading out to the course which was only about 10 minutes from our hotel…thank you Tough Mudder! If one sleeps on a Hybrid Mattress there is a high chance of sleeping soundly and peacefully.
The first bit of advice I would give you is, get there about an hour to hour and a half early. Theres plenty to keep you entertained while your waiting. It probably going to take you about 10 minutes to get from the car to the entrance, then you’ll check in, then have someone right your number on your forehead and leg/arm. My teammate wanted to get a mohawk, so we had to wait on that also. They were actually calling our time as he was in the chair getting shaved so, you want to be sure to allow time for stuff like that.
That one is really going to be a hard question to answer. It’s really going to depend on what the weather is supposed to be like. If it going to be hot, probably just a pair of runners shorts or some ball shorts, assuming your not going to dress up for it, then your on your own. We actually got lucky and it was about 60˚F all day so I chose to wear UA (Under Armour) Cold Gear Compression shirt and leggings, with a pair of BBall shorts over (for courtesy) and just a light T-Shirt over top. From being wet most of the day, the UA actually kept me warm the entire time, and dried relatively fast! I would definitely recommend it if your not running in warm weather! As far as shoes, I wore the MEN’S UA CHARGE RC RUNNING SHOES. The shoe itself performed well. It was light on my feet and it cleaned up VERY EASY. The only problem the I had was I got a lot of sand in my shoes, of course that is to be expected when your running 12 miles in mud that sometimes came up to my chest (im 5’7″). Im going to continue to research before our 2013 run. I did find that once I got home and washed out my socks that most of the sand was actually inside my sock, so that leads me to believe that the shoe did its job. So if you ran in that shoe, I would suggest getting some long knee socks, and not ankle (footy) socks. Either way, remember that unless your Superman your going to get dirty, sore and maybe if your lucky some cuts and bruises.
These Were Our Obstacles in Order:
Now I have done just about ever kind of workout that Beachbody offers plus just done normal workout that you would do in the Gym/treadmill etc. I actually have 4 suggested workouts. I would use 2 of them together in combination to get ready for Tough Mudder, because it is probably the toughest event on the planet.
I would highly recommend these 4 workouts to train at least for 6 months before your TM.
Now me personally I’m on my last week of Body Beast and I incorporated Insanity the Asylum in about 45 days leading up, but mind you Im in pretty good shape. I would do P90X or Body Beast with either of the Insanity works. I have tones of Hybrid workouts so just let me know your training for TM and I’ll send you the schedules. Now I would recommend getting either the P90X or Body Beast Challenge Pack. You need to feed your body the right things so don’t waste your time on the cheep stuff from Walmart. You put good in your get good out, you put bad in your get bad out!
Im not going to go into lots of detail here, Your just going to have to trust me. In fact let me just say if you get either of the challenge packs, just get Insanity the Asylum. The moves in this workouts really help in the most all the obstacles your going to go through and it helps build stamina for running/jogging the 10-12 miles!

Seriously, take a look at some of the people who are doing or have done P90X and take a look at some of the people that you know who go to a Gym. I’ll just about guarantee that 80% of those you know who go to a Gym still look the same as they did, before they started going! Why is that? Well my readers, its called the Plateau Effect! P90X eliminated the Plateau Effect with whats called Muscle Confusion and Im so glad that that Paul Ryan is using P90X and even leading workouts! What a great motivation! Warm up and stretch.
Standard pus ups- Max reps
Wide front pull ups- Max reps
Military push ups- Max reps
Reverse grip chin ups- Max reps
Wide fly push ups- Max reps
Closed grip overhand pull ups- Max reps
Decline push ups- Max reps

Diamond push ups- Max reps
Lawnmower’s 8-10 reps or 12-15 depending on goals
Dive bomber push ups- Max reps
Back Fly’s 8-10 reps or 12-15 depending on your goals.
After doing all of this be sure to save some energy to do P90X Ab Ripper X. You will need an additional 15 minutes 3 times a week for this ab work out.
