Hi all! Its been such a long time since I’ve wrote a post I’ve almost forgot how to!
So I’ve finally decided Im going to give P90X3 a go. I’ve been doing mostly Body Beast to try and add some size. Love Body Beast, but my first love was P90X and I’ve had X3 since it came out. My wife actually did 90 days straight of X3 and got really good results! I’ll put up her before and afters at the end of this post.
As I was reading in the P90X3 Guide, I looked at the X3 Mass Program (theres also a Classic, Lean, and Doubles) and decided that’s what Im going to do next. I’ve personally gained some weight (which I wanted to do) with Body Beast and now I need to cut some of the body fat, so I thought what better program to help me do that than X3!
If you’ve read any of my post, then you’ll know I like to run what’s called Challenge Groups. They’re basically private groups that I create on Facebook and I hold you accountable along with the other people who have committed to take the Challenge! Its easy to commit. Here are some of the questions that I would ask you to find out what you want to accomplish.
Q: Why are you wanting to do this challenge?
Q: What does that mean to you? (“that” meaning your answer to the first question.)
Q: Are you willing to commit to change for the 90 days of the challenge? Specifically are you willing to try new things, new foods, and workout each week trying your best to not miss any workouts or the most important meal of the day?

YES you can. The 21 Day Fix is Beachbody’s newest, and can I say most popular program out right now. And its perfect for anyone of any level of experience! Even if you’re in great shape its a great mix to what you already do!
One of the main reasons the I became a Beachbody Coach is because of the loyalty Beachbody has to committing to creating programs that are made for lifestyle changes, NOT diets! Diets are temporary actions that bring temporary results.
Again this is an easy answer. YES! Well maybe! Why/how you might ask? I want to be honest with you here. Remember what I just said about diets? How they are temporary. Well you will maintain the results and you can continue to lose weight if you continue on with additional rounds of the 21 Day Fix and use the knowledge you’ve acquired from this program in your daily life. Lots of people eat salad everyday and are overweight. Good question! I usually have a full review of the programs to tell you what I like and don’t like. I know I’ve promised a full review on this program. Holy cow its been a while since I’ve done a post!! Sorry about that. Holidays and just the normal winter running around has threw me off a little! Hey really quick before I go into all the workouts that men and women can do in 30 minutes, let me ask a favor of you. Is that cool? Ok so now on to the good stuff. The biggest question isn’t whether or not there are 30 minute routines you can do. Of course there is. The real question that most people want an honest answer to is…can I get in shape or stay in shape with only doing 30 minutes? The answer…YES! So before I loose your attention completely, I’ll list out below the workouts that are rated #1 for 30 minute workouts below that I’ll give you the scoop on how 30 minute workouts in some if not most cases can be more effective for you than an hour, and I’ll go into each listed workout a little to give you an idea of what they’re like. BUT remember, leave me a nice word or two in the comment box below!
30 Minute Workouts for Men and Women that are totally effective for anyone of any size, gender and experience.
Ok so 30 minutes a day HUH? Can it really help me shred this fat and look good? Yes! How? Study after study shows that the most dramatic body transformations happen in the first 30 minutes of exercise. Tony Horton’s goal in X3 was to find a way to use that window of opportunity to help people get ripped, P90X ripped, in just half an hour a day.
So lets just use P90X as an example. With P90X you have your first round of workouts, usually the first round is 30 minutes and then you repeat that in the second round to finish up your hour. So lets say most people burn out in the first 30 minutes and in the second round they need to have enough energy to make it through the workout but may have pushed to hard in the first round, so they are fighting against theirself. Therefor, having 1 30 minute workout that men and women can do each day or 5 or 6 days a week showed that they are effectively burning calories and get in amazing shape.
Of course if you’ve read any of my other post you know what Im going to say next…nutrition is a must. It goes hand in hand with getting that body that you want. And the important thing to remember is that its not going to happen over night. Consistent workouts and nutrition WILL bring consistent results. But you’ve got to work at it!
Now for those of you who PUSH hard for an hour or more each day, don’t hate me. Believe me, I love a good hour workout session. But lets face it. If you’re a single parent, a busy student, a busy parent, a busy business man/women or just don’t want to workout anymore than you have to, and you just want to be in shape and comfortable with your body, not pose for a magazine then a 30 minute workout IS the best solution and it does work!
Straight from Carl Diakelr (Beachbody Founder) “In the P90X3 test group with 40 participants and the average fat loss was 34%. This is unheard of!”

Let me tell you a little about each workout:
P90X3: This workout of course it 30 minutes and is 6 days a week with an optional 7th day workout. If you need extra time to warm up you can select that option and then move on to the workout. The workout itself is just 30 minutes. So you can get in and out and be done. If you’ve never used a workout from Tony Horton then let me break it down. Those of you who have will know what Im talking about. Tony (at least to me) is hilarious. He uses humor through the entire workout so its not boring at all. A LOT of the moves are centered around you own body and weight. Lots of balance building moves and believe it or not that burns fat and builds muscle, more so than going to the gym and using machines. (He actually says that) There are pull ups, which you can modify that with bands if you don’t have a bar. Simple things like dumbbells, weighted balls or even a basket ball, resistance bands and just you. Tony is the modern day Arnold Schwarzenegger, at least in my eyes. He knows his stuff. I highly recommend this to anyone. You don’t have to do any of the previous P90X workouts to do X3. Its well balanced and has an awesome and easy to follow nutrition guide. Its a great mix of cardio, MMX and resistance workouts. Better than any gym in my book!
T25: Shaun T created T25. This dude doesn’t play around! Same scenario as X3. This is a 25 minute workout 5 days a week with a 3 minute cool down after each workout, so a total of about 28 minutes. Friday’s are whats called double days. So you do 2 25 minute workouts on Friday. It was a shocker for me when I got it. But I easily figured out on the Fridays that I only had 25 minutes to spare then I could make up the second workout on Saturday. The results weren’t hindered to my knowledge. The workout is I would say about 75% cardio. There are moves and workouts that use a light weight dumbbell or a resistance band. I love T25 durning that 90 days. Actually though, T25 is only a 60 day program with the option to get the Gamma series to extend it another 30 days. If you like lots of cardio, I recommend this workout. Again anyone can do this. All levels of fitness. I mean you gotta start somewhere right? X3 and T25 are great for starters to extreme fitness level. Good stuff.
BodyBeast: Im not sure it’s fare to put this workout in the short workout category but Im going to anyway. This particular is based on building muscle. Don’t let that fool you though. You can lose weight and tone up with this workout. And believe it or not its quit popular with the ladies. And you don’t have to fear, if you don’t want to get bulky but simply ton and create muscle this is a great workout. You do need equipment though. You can check out my BodyBeast page to see what all equipment you need or search for some related post for some more info. As far as time, during the first 4 weeks I think the workouts are around 45 to 55 minutes. During your Bulk phase (don’t worry about the name) the workouts are 28 to 35 minutes. So kinda short. Either way I love this program. In fact Im testing my own BodyBeast/P90X3 hybrid right now. More on that in a later post.
*21 Day Fix: What is 21 Day Fix? 21 Day Fix is THE fitness and nutrition program to help you lose up to 15 pounds in 21 days. Each workout is approximately 30 minutes a day, 7 days a week. What’s up? So I want to share with you my 2013 Charlotte, NC Tough Mudder experience. If you read my post from last year I pretty much go over with you what to look for, how to dress and some advice on my Beachbody programs that you can use to get ready to do your Tough Mudder. If Im going to be 100% honest with you I was a little under trained last year. I had done Body Beast I think for the most part, and I had done Insanity the Asylum, but I hadn’t ran at all and that was my downfall. Last year was super tough for me. This year, I kicked ass and so did my team. So I want to offer a little better advice on how to train for events like this.
Like I said, I trained really hard for this years Tough Mudder. I’ll tell you what I did and what I think I could do to improve a little more.
Let me start out by saying that I was already in pretty good shape to start. Since becoming a Beachbody Coach in August 2011 I’ve pretty much worked out consistently since then, doing programs like P90X and Body Beast on a regular and doing the new releases like P90X2, Asylum and this years release of T25. After the release this year in July of T25 I did the first 35 days straight of T25 and then for the last 25 days of Beta and the entire Gamma phase I added in the Body Beast workouts each day and I also ran 6 miles twice a week for 2 or 3 months. If you don’t know, Body Beast is pretty much all weight lifting. Lots of old school moves and some new school moves. T25 is a nice mixture of cardio and resistance, all based around tight schedules. Its only 25 minutes a day 5 days a week. P90X is pretty much push and pull. So lots of push-ups and lots of pull-ups and there is a nice mixture of weight lifting to.
I would train at least 4-6 months ahead of your scheduled event. Any of the programs that I listed above will get you into great shape. Upper strength will save you time an time again in this event. You want to use your legs to run, and use as much upper body in obstacles as possible. Run, run, and run some more. My advice is to run 10 to 15 miles a week for 4 to 5 months. Some of the guys in my group ran once a week and they did an awesome job. I ran twice a week 6 miles each time and I did great. Honestly I stayed in the back of our pack the whole time. I’ve had knee issues in the past and because I didn’t run to train for the 2012 Tough Mudder that’s why my knee blew out on me, so I was extra cautious this time, but I believe that because I ran in training this year I didn’t have any issues what so ever.
There are some times that you have to swim. So of course if you want to complete 100% of the obstacles then I would advise you to know how to swim. I did get a cramp one time in the last 2 miles, and it was directly after an obstacle that I had to swim. Thats the hard part. Unless you have somewhere that you can run and swim directly after and then run some more, then its hard to train for it, but I think if you can run 10 miles nonstop you’ll be ok.
For those of you who may not know a lot about Tough Mudder its a 10 to 12 mile course of about 20+ military obstacles.
Charlotte NC, 2013 Tough Mudder Coures Guide
The group of guys that I ran with were great and we helped and motivated each other. We’ve all trained hard so that we could run this course nonstop with the only exception of stoping for the obstacles. We finished the 11 mile course in 2 hours and 37 minutes. I want to say we actually ran it in 2 hours 17 minutes which I think is freakin bad ass. I mean there are some people/teams that may finish sooner but it was a great accomplishment for us! The average according to Tough Mudder is 3.25 to 3.75 hours to complete the course, so almost 1 hour ahead of average is pretty damn good in my book.
Just below tells why I we would have finished 15-20 minutes sooner…
There is one obstacle that my whole team agreed was the best and changed us all. This obstacle wasn’t even on the map. I had actually finished the Boa Constrictor obstacle. I was the last of my team mates to make it through this one. We were on about mile 7 I think. As I run over to meet my team so we start running again, just 100 feet from the obstacle was an extremely muddy 20 foot steep hill that we had to go down. There was a team of 5 that was trying to get down it as we approach. We had made such great time and wanted to just keep going, but we seen that this team was having a hard time figuring out how to get one teammate down the hill. He was in a wheel chair.
Now this in my opinion took great courage. This guy had to put a lot of trust into his team. This guy is no saint. He’s no better or worse because he’s in a chair. And we didn’t treat him any different. What we did do is what Tough Mudder is all about. We saw a fellow Mudder that needed help. And we helped to get the chair down and back up the 20 foot hills. My team can’t take full credit. We did stop and we did help. But so did the other 50 to 100 people at the end of the Boa Constrictor obstacle. I couldn’t get a hand in to help on the way down, so I went to the bottom to wait so I could help going up. (This was in the woods mind you…not man made and there was a small but wet creek at the bottom to get through) As I basically slide down the muddy hill, I stand up and look up. I don’t care how manly you are, but I had goose bumps come over me. It went from my team of 4 plus maybe 10 others helping to what looked like 50 to 100 people. All standing arm-in-arm, working together to get this chair down the hill. It was truly amazing to see so many strangers, with one thing in common (fellow mudders) come together to help someone. To put another team before themselves.
We all agreed that it made the whole event worth while. It was a very humbling event. Im proud of the men that I ran with and Im proud of the other Mudders that helped out. I know for a fact that each TM event is like that in its own way. Mudders helping Mudders. Its a great thing!

You can do anything that you want to in this world. There are always obstacles to face. But facing them and conquering them is what makes us stronger and better. Sometimes we are forced to rely on someone to help us. We have to humble ourselves and ask for help. Remember that asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, but a sign of intelligence. In todays world we have to work smart. Set your goals and conquer them!
I dedicated this run to Brandon, a 10 year old brave little boy! Brandon Matthew Ingram has been battling Ewing’s Sarcoma since before he was diagnosed on November 28, 2011. He is now fighting a second recurrence. I wore a shirt to honor Brandon and to remind me that giving up was just not an option.

Expect the unexpected. Tony Horton is one crazy fitness guru! If you “brought it” in any of the other P90X versions, you better get ready to “Bring it” again! If your new to P90X altogether, thats ok too! As Im typing this, P90X3 still hasn’t hit the market…but I’ve got a few ideas of what I think X3 is going to be like.
This is purely a guess, so if Im wrong don’t hold me to it! Since the release of FOCUS T25 Shaun T’s 25 minute a day, 5 days a week fitness program that’s great for anyone of any fitness level (Im currently in week 7 of this 10 week program and its AWESOME) I think that P90X3 is going to be the next competing workout. Through research and common sense, its been recognized that a lot of people can’t workout for a long period of time 6 days a week. Not that they don’t want to, or get in shape, but they are just truly busy people. I think Tony is going to create P90X3 for those people like Shaun T did with T25. You see, T25 uses very little equipment. Resistance Bands (that come free with the FOCUS T25 Challenge Pack) or dumbbells if you prefer those instead of bands, in only a handful of the workouts. With P90X and P90X2 you need bands and/or dumbbells and a pull up bar at minimum. In all the group workouts I’ve done recently with Tony he has given new moves that you can do that will get you similar results with only the use of your body. To me, Tony is not a big Cardio style guy. Yes he has plenty of cardio workouts, so I’ll be surprised if you don’t need some sort of equipment in X3 but again thats just a guess.
So lets say Im wrong with the first guess. My next assumption for X3 would still be a workout thats less than an hour. P90X was the first of the series and will get you completely ripped and in great shape. You’re able to perform as an athlete, or at least close to it. X2 focuses on speed, balance and agility. Again really honing in on those athletic moves. So I feel like X3 will still follow that same outline, but in less time. Tony Horton is all about creating his workouts to be functional. Meaning simple moves based on the bodies everyday functions. Walking, balance, playing with your kids, yard work or physical functions of your job. Im sure bands and dumbbells will be an option in X3. Realistically you can take bands anywhere if you travel a lot and you can do so many moves with it, even simulate a pull-up.
I can just about guarantee it will come with an awesome meal planner, as all of the Beachbody workouts do, of course a daily workout schedule, and if there is equipment, Im sure resistant bands will come with it also. You may have to purchase the P90X3 Challenge Pack, in order to get the bands for free, again if bands are needed. Challenge Packs are always your best buy with any Beachbody workout anyway. Challenge Packs always come with the entire workout program and your first monthly supply of Shakeology. If you’re not familiar with, I would take a moment to do so. If your going to invest in a workout, you need to invest in nutrition! Shakeology has all that the body needs in a single meal. Tony recommends daily use of it in all his workouts, as does Shaun T, Chalene Johnson, Debbie Siebers, and all the other Trainers at Beachbody. The best part is you end up saving about 30% off the price of the workouts and Shakeology when you get them together. Its just a no brainer to me. Shakeology has changed my life, along with the awesome workouts Beachbody provides!
So what ever the case may be, you can believe this…Tony is going to deliver an action packed workout that anyone, from any background, of any fitness level can do, from anywhere and your going to be guaranteed to get massive results if you can follow a simple nutrition guide and stick to the workout schedule. It’s all about time…thats what Shaun T said at this years Coach Summit in Las Vegas. I had the opportunity to hear Shaun T speak on stage and give a full T25 Review. I was able to do the workout live with Shaun in Vegas and of course I bought Focus T25 myself and brought it home to do. Let me just lead out with this. This program is absolutely amazing! 10 Minute Trainer is a great short workout by Tony Horton, and you all know that Im a big fan of Tony, but I have to say, T25 is now the leader in the category of short workouts that PACK major RESULTS! In fact I would go as far to say that Focus T25 is even going to give the longer workouts a run for their money based on the results you’ll get!
The first question that I get asked is; is T25 like Insanity? While Shaun T was on stage giving the full Focus T25 review he specifically made mention that T25 can’t be compared to any of his workouts, because they are all made with different purposes. I’ll agree with that to some degree. As Anna and I did Focus T25 Alpha: Total Body this morning, we did some moves that I remember doing in Insanity. But let me say this, and maybe I should have lead out with this part at the beginning. T25 is all about you. You go as hard as you want or can, and even in doing that sometimes when Shaun wants you to go at your max its at a slower pace. Shaun T really was brilliant in the creation of this workout.
These workouts are all built on progressions. So you’ll start slow and progress up to whats call the burnout. In your progressions, it seemed to me and this is also how Shaun described it…when your doing a move and you reach that point of exhaustion he switches it up and you’ll go to a move that is working another muscle group or the same muscle but in a different way. Thats what makes this workout so great! Its not like Insanity in the fact that your dog tired by the end of the 2nd warm up and still have 1 more warm up to go!
There are NO BREAKS in T25. But like I said, your not pushing to the point of exhaustion with each move. The 25 minutes really flies by. The first 10 minutes seem like 30 seconds to me, and by that point Im drenched with sweat! Once I realize that I have 15 minutes left I really start to “Focus” hence the name, Focus T25.

Any age, any size, any level of fitness. 25 minutes! You can do it!
Well I pretty much gave it away in the last paragraph. Most people when they start working out are dreading the 50 minute to an hour workout. So they just kinda go through the motions and dilly dally around not really focused on getting the most out of their workout. Or they know that they’re already running behind and their mind is somewhere else thinking about the things they’re gonna have to catch up on from being behind on the long workout they have ahead of them. So they get half way through the workout and realize that they only have 20 to 30 minutes left and they haven’t even broken a sweat yet, or they may be exhausted, if you made it through the 3 warmups of Insanity 🙂 and didn’t push so hard in the beginning after the warm up. So then they really start to “focus” on getting the most of the last part of the workout. That was the main idea behind creating this workout. You know going into it that you only have 25 minutes and your going to have to really focus on the time you’ve got and get the most out of the workout. Its kind of a psychological play, but hey, it works!
Easy answer! NO! Shaun T actually spends more time up moving around, demonstrating form and the modified moves. That’s completely different from any of his other workouts. If you can remember Tonya from Insanity, she actually demonstrates all the modified moves for T25 so if there is something you don’t feel comfortable doing she will guide you in the modified moves. Believe me, they are just as challenging as the original moves but a little easier on the body. Don’t think for one second that the modified move wont get you the same results either. Tonya looks great in these workouts and actually just had a baby within years time.
Some of Insanity’s moves were a little hard to do and learn in the beginning because you might be on the floor at a weird angle and can’t really see whats happening on screen. Thats why Shaun is spending more time walking the floor then working out in these videos. You can feel confident while in a move that you’re doing it correctly because he will tell you exactly what you need to be doing. In fact he’ll tell you in some parts that your head should be down and not looking at the screen. He will give you specific, easy to follow examples that you’ll have no trouble following along and doing.
Yes and no. With the “Original Package” T25 comes with the Alpha and Beta phases. Its a 60 day workout. No equipment other that you. Maybe a resistance band, but the pack comes with one. Once you’ve completed that 60 day cycle, you have the option to get the additional T25 phase called the T25 Gamma Phase. Want to get it done better and faster? Prepare to take on the next 4 weeks of FOCUS T25. These advanced GAMMA Cycle workouts and training tools were specially designed to burn more fat, and help you carve lean, strong muscles, fast. With the Gamma workouts you’ll have the option to use dumbbells and/or resistance bands.

And if you’re only a beginner and/or never worked out a day in your life, this is still the perfect program to start out on. And at only 25 minutes, 5 days a week you should have no excuses why you can’t do this workout.

Why do people still ask this question? Will p90x get you ripped? The simple answer is YES! It absolutely will! Why does P90X work so well? The answer: Muscle confusion, variety and nutrition. Total Package!
I was seriously thinking just the other day while driving home. Im truly in great shape. I mean fantastic shape. And Im not trying to toot my own horn. I think after all my hard work I deserve to be able to say that. I post pictures from time to time on facebook, and some of my gym rate friends even comment on my picture asking me how I get such solid abs because theres just ins’t there. While they are big, and have big muscles, and overall are in good shape, (im talking about the serious ones too) they still can’t get the abs. They’re in the gym 6 to 7 times a week and still can’t get there. Why? Again Im simply a believer in this, and it goes along with any workout. I personally think its 70% nutrition and 30% fitness. Now Im not saying they don’t eat well…let me break it down for you.
P90X gets you ripped simply because its a total package. Like I said above, when I was driving in the car I was thinking to myself,” they really got it right with P90X!” I do get high quality Sarms online as well because before getting ripped it’s essential that I have healthy muscles and the ability to lift heavy weights. The nutrition plan is a great guide for anyone! And yes I meant to say guide. No single person is the same. So one big book isn’t going to work for everyone. Thats what I like about the Nutritional Guide. It’s a great outline for you to start with. You can figure out what works best for you, and whats giving you the results you want. Most people just want to get in the best shape in the fasted amount of time possible. I can understand that…I once felt the same way. But once you get there, you’ve gotta start fine tuning it. Adjusting what your doing with your nutrition, adding things and taking things out so you can see where whats really working for you. And that’s where I am right now. I won’t lie. It was really hard for me to stick with the nutritional guide the first time I did P90X. I thought that’s what you had to do. And I fumbled through it. When I attended my P90X Certification class, I then found out what I just told you. The Nutritional Guide isn’t a perfect fit for everyone. You have to do what works best for you. Sometimes you may need less or even more food than what it calls for. Or you might need to substitute foods, due to variety at your grocery market. Either way, if your trying and using the guide the best you can, you’re on the right track!
So you know about the nutrition, now whats so great about the fitness side. I hate to repeat myself, but like I said above. Tony and the creators really got it right with this one! So for my body builder friends out there, listen up. This is a true story. Remember when I said I posted pics on Facebook occasionally? Well just recently I posted this pic. This is what one of my buddies said; “yo homie message me your current diet. Just cant get my abs quite to the point yours are. They are very close but I do zero cardio.” Now he is in great shape. He has huge arms, chest, back, shoulders and a flat stomach. He’s a gym rat. I definitely give him respect for what he’s accomplished on his own. But I think he’s under a BIG misconception. Cardio is great, but really there is only like 2 workouts that are cardio workouts for each week with P90X. Plyo and Kempo and they really work in more ways than just cardiovascular. My personal opinion is the reason you get such incredible results is the combination of move throughout each week compounded throughout the 90 days. The important thing to remember, this isn’t a quick fix. While it will get you in great shape faster than anything else I’ve ever seen, keep this in mind. It’s a journey. A lifestyle. So take it just one day at a time! Enjoy the journey and stick with it. Remember that small consistent steps overtime will compact into big changes and its much easier to do than to make 1 big change drastically.

While I know not all of us are Fire Fighters, at least you’ll be able to see that P90X is the real deal and that you can use it to train for some of the toughest jobs or you can train like those who have the toughest jobs. Really cool video!
Just very quickly people always ask what Supplement I take. I can assure you that Shakeology is a part of my daily intake! I can’t live without it! Tony Horton’s also. I would highly recommend that you commingle it with mk677 and ingest it as a once-a-day meal replacement, or as your after workout shake.
